S-Voice is Samsung’s voice recognition application and it has been really rewarding to take part in its Italian localisation project. Transcribing Italian audio files, including speaker errors and noises, checking already transcribed text and adding specific codes to thousand words and sentences might sound prosaic at first, but it actually is a wonderful way to immerse in the first stages of an app localisation.

Challenges, however, are always around the corner. Sometimes it is troublesome understanding what has been said by the users because of their low/high tone of voice, the foreign words and the deep and prolonged background noise.

Also, creating arrays of localised phrases has been a brilliant brain training. Thinking about what users usually ask when looking for directions, making appointments, searching information on the web, opening apps or setting alarms may be immediate at first glance, but it needs a lot of creative thinking and pure imagination… in a real race against time!
